About

UK Fossils was formed in 1998 by Alister Cruickshanks who started the site from a ‘Freeserve Domain’, as a personal interest site. Originally with 30 locations, UK Fossils quickly snowballed into this huge network we have today. Over 350 locations are now featured, along with Discuss Fossils, one of our network sites, regularly visited by experts from around the globe who help identify peoples finds.

We are also affiliated to UKAFH, offering fossil hunting trips around the UK. in 2015, we released Deposits Online, a free online edition of our popular printed international magazine. Deposits is available as a printed edition, PDF edition, Deposits Online, or our new App for IOS and Android. The app offers additional articles by subscribing to our premium channel.

In 2016, we revamped our UK Fossils website, into our 7th version. Due to the large number of sites, consisting of thousands of pages, the site was inconsistently running with a mixture of locations in its 4th, 5th and 6th edition. The 6th edition, making up just 35% of the site was responsive to mobiles and tablets. Finally, everything has been pulled together, so the entire network runs on a clean, modern, and mobile/tablet friendly site. Our new UK Fossils App, contains all locations and is synchronised with our new site.
