The rocky shore from White Sands and Catcraig to Barns Ness lighthouse exposes coral-rich Carboniferous limestones, fossil soils and beds crowded with shells and crinoid debris. Broad bedding surfaces make this a rewarding place to study ancient marine life, while the limestone near the lighthouse displays an especially varied range of trace fossils. Carboniferious, Cliffs and Foreshore, Rating: ♦♦♦♦
